HELPFUL STORAGE AND PACKING TIPS |
STORAGE:
- Plan your storage space and store items near
the front that will be accessed frequently, like
records.
Do not store anything close to the door. Place stereos,
TVs & electronics in back of unit. Allow for
an
aisle walk-thru.
- Make an inventory and take photos of your stored
items for insurance purposes, and keep them at
an alternative safe place.
- There are prohibited storage items that every
storage facility will not allow, such
as
combustibles (gas, paint, chemicals or aerosol cans).
Also, food should not be stored.
- We recommend a (discus) lock for your unit to
keep your valuables as safe as possible. They are
not
cut-able with hand tools.
- Refrigerators, stoves, freezers and any food
appliances should be thoroughly cleaned, dried,
and left
with doors slightly ajar.
- Sofas & loveseats can be stored on end (off
the cement floor) to save space and they should
be
wrapped with plastic covers. Cushions should be
put in plastic bags and placed on top.
- For extended periods of time, we suggest covering
everything with plastic.
- Moth Balls are an excellent insect and rodent
deterrent.
- Tables with removable legs should be broken
down to save space.
- When storing lawn & garden equipment, drain
any gas and do not place on end or
oil will leak all over.

PACKING:
- Try to keep boxes in uniform sizes because they
are much easier to stack. Label all boxes with the
contents on the sides, not the top, so they can
be read. Seal all seams with PVC tape. Dishes and
glassware should be wrapped in unprinted newsprint,
bubble wrap, or plastic foam and packed in
dish-pak cartons with dividers. Stand plates, saucers &
heavy items on end, on a cushioned bottom,
and lighter glass & cups on top. Fill all empty
pockets with paper, label all boxes "FRAGILE", and
stack these boxes on top. Furniture with empty drawers
can be utilized for fragile knick-knacks.
- Pictures & Mirrors should be packed in mirror
cartons, marked "FRAGILE", and should be stacked
on end.
- Mattresses & Box Springs should be wrapped
in plastic covers and stored on end and off the
floor.
- Pack books in small cartons and on end and use
paper to fill empty pockets.
- Do not place boxes on concrete floor. Use pallets,
2" x 2" wood strips, or heavy plastic.
- Do not pack anything that will freeze in the
winter.
- Clothing, curtains, and drapes should be stored
on hangers. Wardrobe cartons are the best.
