The History of Bouma Self-StorageAfter graduating from high school, Ralph Bouma served in the U.S. Navy honorably, then graduated from Davenport University in 1959. In 1961, Ralph started with one truck delivering
Grand Rapids made, new furniture and moving local household
goods. As years progressed the business was expanded
into a world-wide moving company affiliated with United
Van Lines. Ralph visioned how necessary and parallel
self-storage would be in demand with the moving services.
In 1977, our first self-storage building was constructed
(the first in the area) and continued expanding with
a total of 10 buildings (cement block & standing
seam roofs) in Comstock Park, on 8 acres along 131,
just north of I-96. |
